The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a significant increase power supply in Lagos with the commissioning of a new 75MVA 132/33kV power transformer at the Lekki Transmission Substation.
The transformer, energised on on Friday, has increased the substation’s capacity from 180MVA to 240MVA, ensuring more reliable electricity for residents and businesses in the area.
This upgrade is part of the ongoing TCN and World Bank projects aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s power transmission infrastructure.
With the additional capacity, the Eko Electricity Distribution Company can now supply more bulk power to communities such as Maroko, Agungi, parts of Lekki, and surrounding environments, addressing persistence challenges of inadequate and unstable electricity.
A statement on its official social media accounts, TCN highlighted the importance of the project in meeting the growing energy demands of Lagos, one of Nigeria’s most populous and economically vibrant states.
“The commissioning of this 75MVA transformer is a critical step in our efforts to improve power supply and support economic growth in the region,” the statement read.
The Lekki substation upgrade is expected to reduce power outages and improve the quality of electricity for thousands of households and businesses. It also reflects the federal government’s commitment to modernizing Nigeria’s power sector and ensuring sustainable energy access for all.
