Former Sokoto State Governor and current Senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial District, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, CFR, has officially resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a letter dated 11th March 2026, addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Tambuwal/Shinfiri Ward in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Senator Tambuwal cited persistent internal conflicts and leadership disagreements as the reasons for his departure.
The letter read: “I write to formally tender my resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective from today. The persistent internal crisis, leadership disagreements, and divisions within the party at various levels have made it increasingly difficult for me to continue my active participation and commitment as a member.”
Senator Tambuwal, who also serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Housing and Urban Development, further expressed disappointment over the current state of the party, noting that the ongoing conflicts have weakened the unity and direction that once defined the PDP.
“The ongoing conflicts have, unfortunately, weakened the unity and direction that once defined the party,” the statement added.
The resignation of the Mutawallen Sokoto marks another significant exit from the main opposition party, which has been grappling with internal strife and leadership tussles in recent times.
