President Donald Trump launched a fierce political attack Thursday, calling on voters to oust a group of Republican senators who defied him in a key national security vote.
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, the President accused Senators Susan Collins (R-ME), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Rand Paul (R-KY), Josh Hawley (R-MO), and Todd Young (R-IN) of siding with Democrats in a vote he claimed “greatly hampers American Self Defense and National Security.”
Consequently, he declared the five “should never be elected to office again.”
The vote in question involved the War Powers Act, which President Trump declared “Unconstitutional, totally violating Article II of the Constitution.”
He argued the act impedes “the President’s Authority as Commander in Chief,” a position he stated “all Presidents, and their Departments of Justice, have determined before me.”
Despite labeling the senators’ actions as “stupidity,” President Trump signaled the fight is not over, noting “a more important Senate Vote will be taking place next week on this very subject.”
