A nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has issued an appeal to her fans in the United Kingdom, urging them to stop posting clips and recordings from her upcoming film, Behind the Scenes, on social media.
In a video posted on her official page on Friday, Funke expressed frustration over unauthorized uploads from viewers who attended the advanced screenings abroad.
She described the act as piracy and warned that it undermines the massive investment that went into the project.
“UK fans that watch the Behind the Scenes, can you stop posting on social media? Please stop posting the movie, you’re not helping, you’re not promoting it. Don’t record. Please, the ones that have recorded, please delete it.
“We spent millions, a billion, over a billion on that project. Please, I beg you in the name of God, delete it, stop posting. It’s piracy”, she appealed.
Funke noted that the film, which cost over a billion naira to produce, represents significant effort and sacrifice from the entire team. She stressed that circulating unauthorized clips harms the industry and affects the revenue needed to sustain future productions.
She then encouraged fans to support the official nationwide release scheduled for December 12, adding that the film’s first full screenings would begin that day across cinemas in Nigeria.
“God bless everybody. See you on the 12th of December in all cinemas nationwide,” she said.
Behind the Scenes is a drama exploring themes of pain, pressure, healing and unspoken struggles. According to earlier promotional material, the movie aims to resonate with audiences who have faced private battles while maintaining a brave face.
A special London premiere held on December 4 at the Odeon Greenwich gave international fans a first look at the film ahead of its release. The official trailer, unveiled on December 2, highlights Akindele’s message that some stories “don’t just entertain… they reveal the parts of us we hide.”
The film will be available in cinemas across Nigeria starting December 12.
