Vice-President Kashim Shettima has accused the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of being overwhelmed by fake identities on its online membership registration portal, highlighting what he described as the opposition partyโs failure in digital operations despite its push for real-time transmission of election results.
The ADC commenced online membership registration on March 1 across the country, in preparation for the 2027 general election and in compliance with the amended Electoral Act. However, Shettima, speaking during an interfaith breaking of fast hosted by President Bola Tinubu and attended by federal ministers, claimed the portal has been flooded with fictitious names.
โThe same Alliance for Democratic Confusion that was adamant that we must have electronic transmission of votes opened their portal for membership registration, and it was overwhelmed by an avalanche of fake names and fictitious identities,โ Shettima said.
He also accused the opposition of spreading misinformation, quoting Winston Churchill: โTruth is so precious that it must be surrounded by a bodyguard of lies. Lies, lies, lies โ that is what is driving the opposition in this country.โ
Addressing political officeholders ahead of the electioneering season, Shettima urged them to defend the policies and achievements of the government. โWe are all political actors. We have to sell our government. We have to stand behind our administration,โ he said.
The vice-president further claimed the ruling party is in a stronger political position than it was during the 2023 elections. โPolitically speaking, we are in a more comfortable position now than in 2023,โ he noted.
Responding to claims that governors were being pressured to join the ruling party, Shettima dismissed such suggestions, stating, โNobody is coercing the governors of Rivers, Delta, Kano, or any other state to join the APC. It is of their own volition because they have seen the light.โ
