The Bauchi State Police Command has restored peace in Lanzai and Dosho communities of Darazo Local Government Area following a violent clash between farmers and herders that claimed seven lives and left several others injured.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the incident occurred on June 4, 2026, when suspected Fulani herders allegedly attacked farmers who were applying local fertilizer on their farmland on the outskirts of Lanzai community.
The attack reportedly triggered a reprisal by youths from Lanzai community, who mobilised and invaded Dosho Village, a Fulani settlement, where they set several structures ablaze.
About 50 huts were destroyed, while household property worth millions of naira was lost in the inferno.
Police said the violence resulted in the death of seven persons, while six others sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment at medical facilities. Significant damage was also recorded on residential buildings and personal belongings.
Following the outbreak of violence, the Command deployed tactical operatives to the affected communities to restore law and order, prevent further escalation, and launch an investigation into the incident.
Additional personnel from the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) have also been deployed, while security patrols have been intensified across Lanzai, Dosho, and neighbouring communities.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, directed a comprehensive investigation into the immediate and underlying causes of the clash.
He assured residents that all individuals involved in both the initial attack and the subsequent reprisal would be identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The police commissioner appealed to community leaders and residents to remain peaceful and refrain from taking the law into their own hands, stressing the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property and ensuring justice for all affected parties.
The Bauchi State Police Command said efforts are ongoing to maintain peace and prevent a recurrence of the violence in the area.
