Ex-Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, was said to have exited his membership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Insider sources told Spear News Nigeria that the former principal officer of the National Assembly is strategizing to declare his membership of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC)
The close source confirmed the development on Wednesday, saying Omo-Agege had resigned from the APC days ago but made his exit public on Wednesday.
The top insider source said, “He has left APC. He will announce NDC soon”.
“He submitted his resignation on 22nd May and announced his exit from the APC today.
“You can call it an earthquake because Omo-Agege was one of APC’s biggest political figures in Delta”.
He further explained that supporters and loyalists of the former senator will move with him to the NDC.
Spear News Nigeria recalls that this development came just about 10 days after Omo-Agege lost the APC Delta Central senatorial primary to Senator Ede Dafinone.
While Omo-Agege garnered 3,643 votes in the primary held on May 17, Dafinone pulled 116,252 votes to secure the APC ticket for a second term.
A few days ago, Spear News Nigeria learned that a chieftain of the NDC in the state, Chief James Onosakponome, urged him to defect to the party and contest the 2027 governorship election instead of the Senate reelection bid.
Onosakponome argued that going back to the Senate would amount to a “political demotion” for a former deputy senate president, insisting that Omo-Agege still commands a strong political influence across Delta State.
His preparation to join the NDC, a reliable source told Spear News Nigeria that it was based on the popular defections of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso from the African Democratic Congress earlier this month.
Obi and Kwankwaso, it would be recalled, had joined the NDC dumping the African Democratic Congress (APC) on May 3, citing the need to “rescue Nigeria” from worsening insecurity and economic hardship.
Ever since, the party has deepened a wave of political interest and realignment in the 2027 political dynamics.
