The Senate on Tuesday approved President Bola Tinubu’s nominees for the leadership of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM), confirming a new Chairman and four Executive Commissioners.
The confirmation, which followed a screening and report by the Senate Committee on Insurance, paves the way for a new governing board to oversee Nigeria’s pivotal pension sector.
The newly confirmed officials and their portfolios are:
· Agbaje Opeyemi Olukayode (Representing South West) – Chairman
· Hafiz Muhammad Kawu Ibrahim (Representing North West) – Commissioner, Technical
· Samuel Chigizie Uwandu (Representing South East) – Commissioner, Inspectorate
· Charles Efe Sylvester Emukowhate (Representing South South) – Commissioner, Finance & Administration
· Bello Abubakar Malabu (Representing North East) – Commissioner
The appointments are seen as a crucial step in ensuring continued stability and effective regulation of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), which manages trillions of Naira in pension assets for Nigerian workers.
