The Rivers State Police Command has issued a stern rebuttal against what it describes as “false, malicious, and baseless” reports circulating on various online platforms, alleging widespread riots and arson in the state.
The reports, which claimed that the residence of former Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, had been set ablaze, have been dismissed as the work of mischief-makers aiming to incite panic and destabilize the peace in Rivers State.
In a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Command categorically denied the existence of any such incidents.
“The report is entirely false and a deliberate attempt to spread fear and unrest among the law-abiding residents of Rivers State,” the statement read. “There is no record of any riot, arson, or violence of any kind. Normalcy prevails across the state, and residents are going about their daily activities without disruption.”
The Police Command expressed concern over the motives behind the fabricated reports, warning that such misinformation could incite public disorder and undermine the relative peace and security enjoyed in the state.
“We sternly warn those behind these falsehoods to desist from such acts immediately. The full weight of the law will be brought to bear on anyone found guilty of spreading misinformation or attempting to disrupt the peace in any form,” the statement emphasized.
The Command reassured residents of its commitment to maintaining law and order, urging the public to remain calm and disregard the unfounded claims.
“We encourage citizens to rely on credible sources for information and to report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies. Rivers State remains safe and secure, and we are dedicated to ensuring it stays that way,” the statement added.
