Rivers State House of Assembly, has passed Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s Medium Term Economic Framework, MTEF, after extensive deliberations.
The lawmakers affirmed that the economic projections as captured in the framework is people-friendly following its provision for the development of non-oil sector and human capital development.
Spear News Nigeria recalls that the lawmakers had convened for deliberations after the MTEF document meant to serve as a framework for the state’s economic projections for 2026-2028 fiscal years was presented to the House on Thursday June 25,2026
They debated on the MTEF extensively and commended governor siminalayi Fubara for presenting a framework that contains the basic economic component and concentration on the development of non oil-sector even though there are a few grey areas that needed review.
During the debate, Speaker Martin Amaewhule, put the passage of the document to vote, as the Lawmakers overwhelmingly voted in favour of the passage of the Governor’s MTEF as a working document.
Following the passage, the speaker said the governor can proceed with the MTEF document as they await the presentation of the 2026 fiscal budget proposal.
He, however, assured that the tenth assembly will support policies that will move the state forward and, commended President Tinubu for the removal of subsidy which, he said had ensured more money to other tiers of governance.
But the house later adjourned to June 30th, for plenary to handle committee reports.
