Nigerians consumed over N1.54 trillion worth of beer and other non-alcoholic brewery products in the first nine months of 2025, a new financial analysis of the countryโs major brewers has revealed.
According to unaudited financial statements filed with the Nigerian Exchange Limited, three leading listed brewersโNigerian Breweries Plc, International Breweries Plc, and Champion Breweries Plc, as quoted by PUNCH, collectively generated the staggering sum from January to September 2025, underscoring massive consumer spending despite inflationary pressures.
A breakdown shows that Nigerian Breweries Plc, the market leader, accounted for the bulk of the revenue, recording N1.05 trillionโa sharp rise from the N710.87 billion it posted in the same period in 2024.
The companyโs cost of sales stood at N631.23 billion, yielding a gross profit of N415.15 billion. After deducting selling, administrative, and finance costs, it declared a profit after tax of N85.51 billion, a major recovery from the N149.50 billion loss recorded in the first nine months of 2024.
International Breweries Plc, which operates across West Africa, posted revenue of N472.57 billion, up from N343.45 billion in the corresponding period of 2024. The brewer reversed its previous loss, reporting a profit after tax of N57.83 billion compared to a loss of N112.81 billion a year earlier.
Champion Breweries Plc, though smaller in scale, also saw significant growth, with revenue rising to N21.44 billion from N14.02 billion. Its profit after tax soared to N2.05 billion, up dramatically from just N21.50 million in 2024.
Industry analysts say the figures reflect the resilience of Nigeriaโs beer market, driven by strong brand loyalty, widespread distribution, and strategic capacity investments following major acquisitions such as AB InBevโs takeover of International Breweries.
The report confirms the brewing sectorโs robust performance amid wider macroeconomic challenges, highlighting both enduring consumer demand and the industryโs ongoing strategic expansions.
