Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide to Goodluck Jonathan and prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has launched a scathing critique on Nasir El-Rufai, the immediate past governor of Kaduna State, accusing him of disseminating false claims about the security efforts of his successor, Governor Uba Sani.
Omokri asserted that El-Rufai is in no position to comment on good governance in Kaduna, citing the significant strides made in combating banditry under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Omokri highlighted that since El-Rufai left office, peace has gradually returned to Kaduna and its neighbouring states in the North-Central region. He pointed out that under Tinubu’s leadership, no fewer than 14 bandit leaders have been neutralised, and the security forces have intensified efforts to arrest, prosecute, and convict others.
“Bandits are no longer demanding ransoms; instead, they are on the run, being killed, or brought to justice,” Omokri stated. He contrasted this with El-Rufai’s tenure, recalling instances where prominent individuals were photographed with heavily armed bandit leaders without facing consequences.
The former presidential aide further alleged that El-Rufai’s criticisms stem from frustration over his inability to exert influence on the current Kaduna State administration. Omokri described the former governor as a “frustrated individual” seeking to discredit the progress made under Governor Uba Sani and President Tinubu.
He urged Nigerians to disregard El-Rufai’s claims, emphasising that the present administration has made remarkable progress in restoring security and stability to Kaduna and other parts of the North.
