The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) is set to organise an online orientation workshop for 97 newly deployed procurement officers across various ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) as part of efforts to strengthen efficiency and standardisation in Nigeria’s public procurement system.
The officers, who are on grade levels 15 to 17, are part of a fresh deployment aligned with recent federal directives aimed at repositioning procurement management within government institutions.
According to the BPP spokesperson, Zira Nagga, the deployment follows a presidential directive issued on May 13, 2025, by President Bola Tinubu, which mandated the reversion of the mobility and career management of procurement officers back to the Bureau.
Nagga explained that the development was further reinforced by a directive from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation dated December 9, 2025, which supports the implementation of the policy across federal institutions.
He noted that the initiative is designed to ensure that procurement officers operate under a centralised framework that enhances accountability, professionalism, and adherence to due process in public procurement activities.
The upcoming orientation workshop, scheduled for March 31, is being organised at the instance of the Director-General of the Bureau, Adebowale Adedokun, who is expected to preside over the session.
According to the Bureau, the training programme is aimed at equipping the newly deployed officers with the necessary knowledge, skills, and understanding required to effectively perform their roles within the procurement system.
The orientation will focus on strengthening capacity in key areas of public procurement, including compliance with established guidelines, transparency in contract processes, and efficient management of public resources.
Nagga emphasised that participation in the workshop is mandatory for all 97 officers, underscoring the importance the Bureau places on ensuring that all personnel are adequately prepared for their responsibilities.
He added that the initiative forms part of broader reforms being implemented to improve the efficiency of procurement practices across federal ministries, departments, and agencies.
The Bureau reiterated its commitment to building a robust procurement system that promotes accountability, reduces inefficiencies, and aligns with global best practices in public financial management.
It also noted that the deployment and subsequent orientation of the officers represent a strategic step towards strengthening institutional capacity and ensuring that procurement activities across government are carried out with professionalism and integrity.
The development reflects ongoing efforts by the federal government to reform public sector operations, enhance transparency, and ensure that procurement processes contribute effectively to national development goals.
