Senator Ned Nwoko has stated that he believes polygamy provides men with greater stability in life, while expressing pity for those who have only one wife.
The lawmaker, who represents Delta North and is married to four wives, including actress Regina Daniels, made the comments during an appearance on Channels Televisionโs Politics Today on Sunday.
โI feel sorry for those who have one wife. Just imagine standing on one leg โ itโs difficult. But with two, three, or four, youโre more balanced. Thatโs the example I give,โ Nwoko said.
When the interviewer noted that the Bible does not endorse polygamy, the senator offered a rebuttal before steering the conversation away from theology. โThe Old Testament does. I am a man of faith. But thatโs not what we are here for,โ he said.
Senator Nwoko, who has been open about his polygamous family, firmly stated that he has no regrets about his marital choices. โNo, I donโt have any regret. I would do the same thing again. You should marry who you want to marry,โ he added.
His remarks come at a time of public speculation about the state of his marriage to Regina Daniels. Recently, the actress unveiled a newly acquired mansion on her social media page with a caption that sparked discussion online. She wrote: โIn my house I am a Queen! I needed a roof over my head so I got this for me and my family.โ
During the interview, Senator Nwoko also directly addressed recent allegations of domestic violence involving Daniels, which have circulated online. He firmly denied the claims, describing them as unfounded.
โI am not a violent person. I respect my wives and love them and my kids,โ he stated.
The senator’s public defence of polygamy and his dismissal of the allegations provide his perspective on his personal life amidst ongoing media scrutiny. By framing polygamy as a source of balance and stability for men, he has ignited a public conversation about modern relationships and traditional marriage structures in Nigeria.
His comments are likely to provoke further discussion on the cultural, religious, and social dimensions of marriage in the country.
