The Enugu State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on criminal activities with a targeted raid on suspected hideouts at the New Artisan axis, leading to the destruction of a drug bunk and the arrest of a 29-year-old suspect.
The commandโs spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday, noting that the operation was carried out by operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad during a midnight patrol on April 5.
According to him, the police team stormed the identified locations in a coordinated crime prevention exercise, successfully dismantling structures believed to be used for drug peddling and other criminal activities.
During the raid, operatives recovered quantities of suspected marijuana, bags containing clothes believed to have been stolen from victims, 11 SIM cards from different telecommunications networks, a pair of scissors, and other items considered relevant to ongoing investigations.
The operation also led to the arrest of one suspect, identified as Francisco Olugba, while other members of the suspected criminal network reportedly fled the scene.
Ndukwe stated that beyond the arrest, the operatives destroyed makeshift structures allegedly serving as drug bunkers and hubs for illicit activities, effectively disrupting criminal operations within the area.
โInvestigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal network and uncover the full extent of their operations,โ he said.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mamman Giwa, reaffirmed the commandโs commitment to proactive policing strategies aimed at curbing crime and enhancing public safety.
He assured residents that the police would continue to sustain intelligence-led operations and community-focused interventions to dismantle criminal networks and ensure a secure environment across the state.
The latest raid highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement authorities to clamp down on drug-related crimes and organised criminal activities, particularly in identified hotspots, as part of broader security measures in Enugu State.
