The Nigeria Police Force has ordered the arrest and disciplinary proceedings against one of its officers, who was caught in a viral video allegedly extorting a motorcyclist in Cross River State.
In the widely circulated footage from Sunday, a uniformed officer is seen stopping a motorcyclist on the roadside, demanding and counting cash as the rider appeared reluctant.
Responding decisively, the Police Complaint Response Unit (@PoliceNG_CRU) confirmed the video’s authenticity in a statement on X. The Force high command has ordered both the officer involved and his Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to report immediately to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for disciplinary actions.
“#NoToImpunity,” the police statement affirmed, underscoring a stance against misconduct.
It follows a similar investigation launched days earlier by the Ogun State Police Command into a separate viral video, where a truck driver alleged assault by men impersonating police officers. The Ogun Command has since clarified that those individuals were not genuine police officers.
