The Plateau State Police Command has stepped up its operations against crime, recording multiple arrests involving a suspected kidnap kingpin, arms traffickers, and other criminal suspects across the state in a series of coordinated raids.
The Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, made the disclosure while addressing journalists in Jos, noting that the successes were driven by actionable intelligence and sustained support from residents.
According to him, the operations reflect the command’s commitment to restoring safety and maintaining law and order across Plateau. He assured that the police would continue to pursue criminal elements and safeguard lives and property.
Among the key arrests is Aminu Adamu, identified by the police as a leading figure in a kidnapping network operating in Bassa Local Government Area. The suspect was reportedly apprehended following credible intelligence and remains in custody as investigations continue ahead of prosecution.
In another operation, officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested Prince Bernard Bassey and Sunday Laraba over their alleged involvement in the abduction of a victim along the Qua’an Pan axis. Recovered items from the suspects include mobile phones, SIM cards, and other materials believed to be connected to their activities.
The command also dealt a blow to illegal arms trafficking with the arrest of three suspects—Taimako Luwe, Korbe Gobakji, and Nandang Zingchang—who were found with an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and live ammunition. Police said one of the suspects admitted ownership of the weapons and confessed to procuring them in Vom before distributing them within the network, indicating a wider arms supply chain under investigation.
Additional arrests were made in Bokkos Local Government Area, where Mamman Bello was found in possession of a revolver and live cartridges. Similarly, Sunday Ahmadu was apprehended in Jos North with a locally made firearm after a tip-off from a concerned resident.
The police boss highlighted the importance of community involvement, stating that intelligence provided by citizens continues to play a crucial role in tackling insecurity and aiding swift police response.
In Shendam Local Government Area, operatives arrested Nanbut Hosea over an armed robbery incident involving the theft of a motorcycle, farm produce, livestock, and cash, while efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing suspects.
The command also uncovered a human trafficking case in which a suspect allegedly deceived young women with promises of jobs abroad before forcing them into commercial sex work in Ghana, underscoring the evolving nature of criminal activities in the state.
Cases involving sexual offences were equally recorded, with suspects arrested for alleged rape and abuse of minors in different locations. Police authorities assured that all suspects will face prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations.
Mr Ewah reiterated the command’s resolve to ensure justice is served, while urging residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to strengthen the fight against crime.
