ABUJA, NIGERIA – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reassured Nigerians that the temporary hardships accompanying his administration’s reforms are yielding positive results, as he marked his 74th birthday on Sunday with a low-key celebration at the Aso Villa.
In a special birthday message to the nation, the President struck a tone of gratitude and cautious optimism, acknowledging the economic pains citizens have endured while pointing to what he called “a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.”
“As I mark this special day, I am reminded of the challenges we’ve faced since we initiated our reforms,” Tinubu said. “I’m glad that our sacrifices have not been in vain.”
The President attributed recent headwinds, including rising costs, in part to the ongoing Middle East crisis, describing it as a “temporary setback.” However, he insisted that the nation’s collective endurance is already beginning to pay off.
Consistent with his tradition of matching his birthday’s mood to that of the nation, Tinubu kept the observance subdued. He used the occasion to thank Nigerians across the country for their “patriotism, solidarity and support,” singling out those who purchased newspaper spaces or radio airtime to send him well-wishes.
The President also offered personal thanks to First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for her “kind and loving words” and to Vice President Kashim Shettima for his tribute.
As his administration approaches its third anniversary, Tinubu emphasized that no single individual deserves credit for the progress so far made.
“The credit for the positive outcomes we have achieved does not belong solely to me, our Renewed Hope team, or our government. We achieved the gains together,” he stated.
Looking ahead, the President struck an optimistic note, declaring his “deepest conviction” that Nigeria will succeed in building a brighter future for citizens and generations yet unborn.
“Let us continue to work together to build a stronger, prosperous and more resilient nation that will make Nigeria the pride of Africa,” Tinubu said, concluding his message with a personal note: “Thank you all, and happy 74th birthday to me!”
