The Ogun State Police Command has issued a clarification following widespread reports that Nigerian comedian and entertainer Broda Shaggi was allegedly shot while filming a skit under the Sango-Ota bridge in Ogun State.
In a press statement released by the Command, police authorities said they could not confirm that such an incident occurred anywhere within Ogun State, noting that no official report of the alleged shooting had been received at any police formation across the state.
The statement comes after the claim circulated widely on social media, sparking concern among fans and followers of the popular comedian, whose real name is Samuel Animashaun Perry. Reports had earlier suggested that the entertainer was attacked during a filming session and rushed to a nearby hospital, a claim that quickly gained traction online.
However, the Ogun State Police Command said it has no record of such an incident within its jurisdiction and urged the public to exercise caution in spreading unverified information.
According to the police, the Command remains committed to professionalism and transparency and has already begun steps to verify the claims circulating in the public space. Authorities said preliminary inquiries have been initiated to determine the true circumstances behind the report and whether the alleged incident occurred elsewhere or was inaccurately represented.
The police added that the investigation aims to establish the facts surrounding the claim and ensure that accurate information is provided to the public.
While the investigation is ongoing, the Command advised citizens and media platforms to rely strictly on official police communication and verified sources when sharing information related to security incidents.
The statement also reassured residents that the Command remains committed to the safety of all individuals within Ogun State and continues to maintain law and order across the state.
The clarification comes as the earlier reports generated widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing shock and concern over the alleged attack on the comedian. As authorities continue their investigation, the police say further updates will be provided once the facts surrounding the claim are fully established.
