The Obidient Movement has disowned reports claiming it has endorsed Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for a second term, labeling such claims as “fraudulent, unauthorized, and grossly misleading.”
The nationwide citizens’ platform, in a press release issued on Tuesday, 21st October 2025, and signed by its National Coordinator, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, categorically restated its support for Mr. George Moghalu, the candidate previously endorsed by His Excellency Peter Obi for the upcoming Anambra gubernatorial election.
The statement was prompted by circulating reports suggesting a shift in the Movement’s allegiance. The Obidient Movement moved swiftly to quash these narratives, asserting, “The Obidient Movement states unequivocally that it has not authorized, endorsed, or supported any candidate other than Mr. George Moghalu.” It further instructed the public that “any statements or representations suggesting otherwise are false and should be disregarded.”
Emphasizing its core principles of political independence, the Movement clarified that its support is not given lightly but is guided by its mission to promote “integrity, accountability, and people-centered leadership across Nigeria.” The statement reminded the public that its past support for Peter Obi was based on his “proven track record and commitment to national transformation.” Consequently, it stated that “any individual or faction claiming to endorse other candidates does so in a personal capacity and not on behalf of the Obidient Movement.”
In a strong rebuke of the alleged misinformation campaign, the Movement “strongly condemns the misuse of its name, logo, or identity to advance personal or political interests.” It described any assertion of an endorsement for Governor Soludo as a “blatant misrepresentation,” adding that the group “does not participate in transactional politics or quid pro quo arrangements, and it firmly rejects any attempt to exploit its goodwill for selfish or partisan ends.”
Looking forward, the Obidient Movement assured its members and the Nigerian public that it remains “resolutely focused on promoting competent and ethical leadership.” It cautioned that all future political decisions, including those concerning the 2027 presidential election, “will be made collectively and communicated through official channels only,” dismissing current speculative narratives as “premature and baseless.”
The Movement concluded with a call for “the media, general public, and political stakeholders to disregard any false claims” linking it to an endorsement of Governor Soludo, reaffirming its commitment to building a Nigeria where leadership is anchored solely on “competence, character, and the common good.”
