The Labour Party led by Peter Obi’s faction has formally submitted its list of interim State Working Committee members to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The submission, made on Friday covers 32 states and the Federal Capital Territory, was made known in a statement signed by Interim National Publicity Secretary Ife Salako.
The action, according to the statement, follows “the resolutions of its NEC meeting held on 18th July 2025,” and was executed “in line with the Constitution of the Labour Party.”
The party confirmed that lists for Ondo, Ekiti, Niger, and Kwara States are being finalised and will follow shortly.
It urged “party faithfuls in the affected states to remain patient as urgent steps are being taken to resolve local issues involving party leaders.”
Concurrently, the party has inaugurated a critical body to bolster its ranks ahead of the 2027 elections, notifying INEC of “the constitution of a National Steering Committee for Membership Revalidation/New Registration.”
This committee will oversee the national launch of the “Labour Party Connect 10 Million Nigerians⦠Connecting 10 Million Patriots for a New Nigeria” drive.
Chaired by Abia State Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, with Comrade Ladi Iliya and Dr. Kingsley Okundaye as Deputy Chairmen, the exercise is slated to run from December 17, 2025, to January 20, 2026.
The party explicitly calls on “Nigerians who continue to bear the brunt of the current APC government’s misrule to register with the Labour Party and be part of the movement for a New Nigeria.”
The newly constituted interim state executives have been directed to “cooperate fully with the National Steering Committee” to ensure a seamless process and help “surpass its projected target of registering 10 million members.”
The party expressed “profound appreciation to the Nigerian people, especially the media, for their steadfast support during recent challenging times.”
It ended with a cautionary note, urging vigilance as “the forces that orchestrated the past crises – now resolved by the apex court – are still lurking around.”
