A public disagreement between aides of Peter Obi and Senator Henry Seriake Dickson has exposed fresh internal tensions within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the party’s logo and leadership communication.
The clash erupted on X after Esther Umoh, an aide to the NDC presidential candidate, raised concerns about the party’s preparedness for the 2027 election.
Umoh, who also serves as Obi’s official photographer, warned that confusion over the party’s INEC-recognised logo could undermine its visibility and cohesion with just five months to the polls.
“The party’s supreme leader is an experienced politician. I believe he fully understands the electoral and political implications of allowing this uncertainty to persist,” Umoh wrote, referring to Senator Dickson.
Her choice of words drew a sharp rebuke from Theo AbuAgada, the party’s communications representative, who described the “Supreme Leader” tag as inappropriate.
“As an employee of the presidential candidate, I find it disrespectful to refer to our national leader as a ‘Supreme Leader’ — a nomenclature that denotes an authoritarian regime, which Senator Dickson is not known for,” AbuAgada responded.
While AbuAgada confirmed that the logo issue had been raised with the national leadership and was being addressed, he urged Umoh to be more circumspect in her public statements.
The exchange has cast a spotlight on coordination challenges within the NDC, a party positioning itself as a major contender in the 2027 race. Neither the national secretariat nor Obi’s campaign team had issued an official reaction at press time.
