A notorious bandit kingpin, Kachalla Sani Yellow, has been neutralised by security forces in Zamfara State, dealing a significant blow to criminal networks terrorising the North-West region.
The bandit warlord was killed in Anka Local Government Area following a gun duel in which hybrid forces repelled a bandit attack.
Reports indicate that Yellow was intercepted while visiting a local market, where he had allegedly gone to collect proceeds from rustled livestock and negotiate ransom payments from kidnapped victims.
Kachalla Sani Yellow was regarded as one of the most influential bandit commanders operating across the forests of Anka, Bukkuyum, and Maru Local Government Areas. He was accused of masterminding numerous attacks on rural communities, organising mass kidnappings for ransom, cattle rustling, and leading violent raids that displaced thousands of residents across the North-West .
The Zamfara State Police spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the killing . However, conflicting accounts have emerged regarding the precise circumstances of his death.
While security sources attribute the killing to a coordinated operation involving security operatives and the Maiduguri Special Vigilantes, local sources claim Yellow was shot dead by gunmen loyal to a rival bandit leader, Dogo Gide .
Following the operation, images and video showing Yellow’s mutilated remains were widely circulated on social media, with hybrid forces reportedly dragging his body in a victory parade .
Security analysts believe Yellow’s elimination represents a major setback for criminal networks in Zamfara and neighbouring states. However, communities in Tsafe Local Government Area have reportedly come under fresh attacks, believed to be reprisals for the killing.
Troops have heightened surveillance to prevent further retaliatory attacks by surviving gang members .
