The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has raised the alarm over what it describes as a coordinated sabotage campaign targeting its leadership and ongoing reforms.
This was contained in a public notice issued Friday morning by management of the national oil company, warning of a deliberate effort by “known and faceless actors” to disrupt its transformation into a “corruption-free, performance-driven energy company.”
According to the statement, NNPC Ltd. has uncovered an “emerging coordinated sabotage campaign” being waged by a network of individuals both inside and outside the organisation.
The company accused the group of “actively spreading lies and misinformation” in an attempt to discredit its leadership and derail reforms aligned with President Bola Tinubuโs mandate.
“Their tactics include planting scandalous and fabricated reports, curated to distract leadership, mislead the public, and undermine the commitment of our dedicated workforce and reform-minded Nigerians,” the statement read.
NNPC Ltd. suggested that the campaign is being orchestrated by those “threatened by reform, transparency, accountability, and change.” The company described the efforts as “clear evidence of the lengths to which they will go to obstruct the transformation of Nigeriaโs foremost energy institution.”
The statement further warned of an expected “surge of defamatory content in the days and weeks ahead” but insisted that NNPC Ltd. remains “undeterred.”
Despite the alleged smear campaign, the oil firm reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing reforms, declaring: “The transformation is underway, and no amount of sabotage will stop it.”
NNPC Ltd. called on its staff, stakeholders, and the general public to remain vigilant against misinformation. “We urge our dedicated staff, stakeholders, and all patriotic Nigerians to stay focused, ignore the noise, and not be discouraged. We remain on mission,” the notice concluded.
