The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued its daily weather outlook, forecasting a day of widespread thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across a significant portion of the country for Monday, September 8th, 2025.
In a bulletin released on Sunday, the agency detailed a regional breakdown, indicating that the northern and central states are expected to bear the brunt of the most intense weather activity throughout the afternoon and evening.
According to the forecast, the Northern States will experience a cloudy morning with intervals of sunshine. However, by afternoon, thunderstorms with moderate rains are highly likely over parts of Borno, Sokoto, Kebbi, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, Kaduna, Adamawa, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, and Taraba States.
The Central States, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), are predicted to see light rains in the morning over areas like Nasarawa, Niger, and Kogi. This is expected to intensify into thunderstorms with moderate rains in the afternoon and evening over parts of Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, and the FCT.
For the Southern States, the morning will be predominantly cloudy with chances of light rains in interior states like Enugu, Ebonyi, and Imo. As the day progresses, isolated moderate rains are anticipated over a broader region, including states like Oyo, Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Delta, and the coastal areas of Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.
In its advisory, NiMet urged residents in the affected areas to exercise considerable caution during the thunderstorms. The agency warned that the rainfall events may be accompanied by strong winds, which could lead to several hazards.
“Strong winds may accompany the rainfall, leading to reduced visibility, slippery road surfaces, and the possible disruption of outdoor activities,” the bulletin stated. It further advised that “communities in flood-prone areas should remain alert and take necessary precautions.”
The agency encourages the public to stay updated on the evolving weather situation by visiting its official website, http://www.nimet.gov.ng, or viewing its detailed video forecast on YouTube.
This forecast serves as a crucial alert for commuters, farmers, event planners, and the general public to plan their activities accordingly and prioritize safety during the anticipated periods of inclement weatweath.
