The wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has said Nigeria plans to model its National Library in Abuja after Qatar’s modern, digital facility.
The First Lady shared this after a tour of the Qatar National Library in Doha on Saturday. She stated that upon completion, the Abuja library will become a national pride: a modern, digitised facility equipped to cater to all and a repository of the nation’s history.
She noted that to achieve this, Nigeria is looking to draw inspiration and a worthy template from the Qatar National Library.
Senator Tinubu said Nigeria is blessed with a rich cultural heritage which must be properly documented for posterity. She emphasised that the youth must have a referral point to know more about the nation and stressed that the Qatar National Library’s motto, ‘Free Access to Knowledge’, is worthy of note.
The library in Doha, with its two million books and 500,000 e-books, is one of the prides of Qatar.
Her visit is a prelude to her engagement with the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. There, she hopes to secure a partnership to address the challenges of out-of-school children and Almajiri education in Nigeria.
