Trading activity on the Nigerian Exchange Ltd. this week hit 3.647 billion shares worth N130.151 billion across 244,777 deals.
This was against 4.360 billion shares worth N210.331 billion traded across 223,284 deals in the previous week.
Consequently, the value of transactions traded by investors on the floor of the NGX declined by 47.4 per cent.
The Financial Services Industry led the activity chart with 2.909 billion shares valued at N56.668 billion traded in 106,662 transactions.
This contributed 79.76 per cent and 43.54 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value, respectively.
The Services Industry followed with 153.122 million shares worth N2.331 billion in 15,850 deals.
Third place was the Consumer Goods Industry, with a turnover of 116.656 million shares worth N11.035 billion in 26,487 deals.
Trading in the top three equities, namely Fortis Global Insurance Plc, Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc, and Sterling Financial Holdings Company Plc, accounted for 1.544 billion shares worth N4.067 billion in 3,017 deals.
This contributed 42.33 per cent and 3.12 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value, respectively.
Meanwhile, the NGX All-Share Index and Market Capitalisation depreciated by 1.60 per cent and 1.24 per cent to close the week at 243,052.74 and N157.587 trillion, respectively.
Similarly, all other indices finished lower, with the exception of the NGX AFR Div Yield, NGX MERI Value, NGX Oil & Gas, NGX Sovereign Bond, and NGX Commodity indices, which appreciated by 0.71 per cent, 0.79 per cent, 2.83 per cent, 0.14 per cent, and 2.19 per cent, respectively.
Nine equities appreciated in price during the week, lower than the 56 equities recorded in the previous week.
Eighty equities depreciated in price, higher than the 35 equities recorded in the previous week, while 58 equities remained unchanged, higher than the 56 recorded in the previous week.
The Nigerian Exchange Group, Ellah Lakes, Seplat Energy, Etranzact International, and Ikeja Hotel were the top five gainers for the week, increasing by N18, N1.20, N1,355.20, 70k, and N1.95, respectively.
On the losersβ side, Fortis Global Insurance, Critical Minerals Financing Corp, Austinlaz, Omatek Ventures, and Royal Exchange were the top five losers for the week.
The companies lost 55k, 64k, 51k, 33k, and 20k, respectively.
In the course of the week, the August 2026 issue of the Federal Government Savings Bonds was listed on the NGX on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
Also, an additional 8.09 billion ordinary shares of 50k each of Dangote Sugar Refinery were listed on the Daily Official List of the NGX on Monday, Sept. 7.
An additional 350,531 shares of Chapel Hill Denham Nigeria Infrastructure Debt Fund were listed on the Daily Official List of the NGX on Tuesday, September 8.
