Senator Ali Ndume has described Vice President Kashim Shettima’s re-nomination as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 general elections as a reflection of the President’s confidence in his deputy’s loyalty and competence.
The Borno South senator made this known on Friday evening when he visited the Vice President at his Abuja residence to personally congratulate him on the milestone.
“His Excellency Kashim Shettima has consistently demonstrated loyalty, dedication, competence, and an unwavering commitment to the success of this administration and the progress of our great nation,” Ndume said in a statement.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) formally confirmed Vice President Shettima as President Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election on Friday, putting an end to months of speculation over his place on the party’s ticket.
Ndume, a fellow leader from Borno State, said it was important for him to personally identify with the Vice President on what he described as a significant milestone.
The senator also extended his appreciation to President Tinubu for the confidence reposed in the Vice President through his renomination.
“I am confident that his experience, political maturity, and leadership qualities will continue to strengthen the APC and further enhance the party’s prospects in the 2027 general elections,” Ndume stated.
The ruling party submitted the completed nomination forms of President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima to the APC leadership on Friday for onward transmission to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The nomination forms were presented to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, by the President’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ibrahim Masari, during a ceremony in Abuja attended by members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, the National Assembly, the Federal Executive Council, and the APC National Working Committee.
APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, confirmed to journalists after the event that “our Vice Presidential candidate is Senator Kashim Shetima”.
The senator concluded his message with prayers for the Vice President, asking Almighty Allah to grant him “greater wisdom, strength, and good health as he continues to serve our nation.”
Ndume’s endorsement aligns with the position of other APC leaders who have welcomed the retention of the Tinubu-Shettima ticket. Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle, in his own congratulatory message, described the decision as “the wisest decision at the moment”.
The formal retention of Shettima now positions the APC to enter the 2027 presidential contest with the same ticket that won the 2023 general election.
