Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have recorded a major breakthrough in Edo State after raiding a suspected drug warehouse and seizing 1,378 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa in a single operation.
The agencyโs Commander in Edo, Dr Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed on Monday in Benin that the operation was carried out in Igbanke community in Orhionmwon Local Government Area, following credible intelligence.
According to him, the raid led to the recovery of 125 bags of dried weeds suspected to be skunk, a development he described as a significant disruption to illicit drug supply networks operating within the state.
Ofoyeju confirmed that a 37 year old suspect, Roland Owie, was arrested in connection with the seizure and is currently in custody as investigations continue.
Describing the operation as a major success, the NDLEA commander said it reflects the agencyโs sustained efforts to dismantle drug trafficking operations through intelligence driven strategies.
โThis successful operation is a testament to our relentless pursuit of drug cartels and our strategic focus on supply suppression. The seizure of 1,378kg of cannabis in one single operation represents a significant dent in the distribution network of these harmful substances,โ he said.
He noted that intercepting such a large quantity of drugs would prevent them from circulating within communities, particularly among young people who are most vulnerable to substance abuse.
โEvery kilogramme seized disrupts the criminal economy, weakens trafficking syndicates and makes our society safer,โ Ofoyeju added.
He further stressed that the agency would continue to intensify its crackdown on illicit drug networks, warning that Edo State is no longer a safe haven for traffickers.
The commander also commended the operatives involved in the raid for their professionalism and dedication, while calling on members of the public to support the agency by providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing operations.
