All legislative functions at the National Assembly have been suspended till Tuesday, June 15 as a mark of respect for late President Muhammadu Buhari, who died in London on Sunday, according to the Clerk to the National Assembly, Mr Kamoru Ogunlana.
The suspension implies that activities such as committee hearings, meetings and other official engagements by lawmakers will not take place till Tuesday, next week.
“In honour of his legacy and service to the nation, I am directed by the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives to inform all members of the National Assembly and the general public that all legislative activities in the National Assembly are hereby suspended immediately until Tuesday,22 July, 2025”, the Clerk wrote on Monday morning.
The statement said the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abass Tajudeen, on behalf of members and staff of the National Assembly, extended heartfelt condolences to Nigerians and the immediate family of late President Buhari.
“President Muhammadu Buhari will be remembered for his commitment to Nigeria’s unity and his integrity”, Ogunlana added.
