The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) said the unresolved allegation of political marginalisation
of the people could paralyze the ongoing negotiation to resume oil exploration activities in Ogoniland under the broader Ogoni survival struggle.
It also reflected on the outcomes of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in the state, insisting it was a plot to prevent credible Ogoni candidates from participating in the upcoming 2027 guber elections, citing the situation as a sign of deepening political inequality and injustice against the community.
Mr Imeabe Oscar, the group’s spokesman in a statement made available to newsmen in PortHarcourt, alleged that the development was a deliberate exclusion of Ogoni people from vying key elective positions, warning that the aftermath could undermine trust aimed at restoring oil production in the area.
Further, MOSOP has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of compromising some politicians of Ogoni extraction to sabotage the collective will of the people.
Also, MOSOP alleged that the compromised politicians of the land even played influential roles in the recent past party primaries to undermine the broader interest of the Ogoni people.
“We urge President Bola Tinubu to understand our plight. Having contributed immensely to the economy of the state, region, and nation, we deserve the opportunity to govern our own state”.
The group alleged that some Ogoni politicians collaborate with external forces, over time, to misrepresent their aspirations.
“They are not in a position to negotiate our political fate or collective will”.
In most political circles, Insider sources said the emerging build-up appears to reflect on the Ogoni age-long agitation for environmental justice, political inclusion, and equitable resource control in the Niger Delta.
