The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, has assured the public that the ongoing emergency simulation exercise at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport is purely a routine drill and not a real crisis.
In a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account earlier today, the Minister announced the commencement of Aircraft Emergency Mock Exercise, emphasizing that it was a planned safety preparedness activity.
“The public is hereby notified that an Aircraft Emergency Mock Exercise is commencing at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport today, 31st July, 2025,” Keyamo stated. “Please note that it is just a mock exercise, and there is no need to get apprehensive.”
The drill, which involves multiple agencies including the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), and emergency responders, is designed to test the airport’s readiness in handling potential aviation incidents.
Passengers and airport users were advised to remain calm as the exercise may involve simulated emergency scenarios, including the deployment of fire trucks, ambulances, and rescue personnel.
