The Kwara State Government has announced significant improvement in its 2025 placement examination results, with both student participation and performance showing strong growth.
In a statement released on Monday by the Press Secretary for the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Peter Amogbonjaye, the state Commissioner for Education, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, presented the results. He shared a message from Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who stated, “The encouraging results from both the placement and BECE examinations reaffirm our administration’s commitment to strengthening public education. We are proud of the steady progress and will continue to invest in teaching, learning, and infrastructure so that every Kwara child has a fair chance to succeed.”
According to the Commissioner, participation in the exams increased by 3.09%, rising from 62,031 students in 2024 to 63,950 in 2025. This growth highlights the rising demand for public education and the success of government initiatives across schools and local education authorities.
Olohungbebe added that performance outcomes showed remarkable improvement. The overall pass rate climbed to 83.21% in 2025, compared to 73.98% in 2024 and 66.99% in 2019. This represents the strongest result within the review period.
He further emphasised that results at the subject level confirmed this upward trend. Mathematics recorded a 72.86% pass rate in 2025, up from 67.00% in 2024. English improved to 74.61% from 73.00%, while General Studies rose to 85.30% from 78.00%.
The Commissioner stressed that these positive outcomes build on recent gains, which were also seen in the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), where Kwara students recorded improved performance across the board.
Olohungbebe commended teachers, school leaders, parents, and learners for their collective efforts in sustaining these achievements.
