Kano State was plunged into deep mourning on Wednesday following the shocking and nearly simultaneous deaths of two members of its House of Assembly within a single, tragic hour.
The tragic sequence began when Hon. Aminu Saโadu, the lawmaker representing the Ungoggo Local Government Area constituency, suddenly took ill shortly after arriving at the Assembly complex. He was swiftly rushed to a hospital but could not be revived, his death sending immediate shockwaves through the state’s political ranks.
In a devastating turn that compounded the grief, barely sixty minutes later, news confirmed the passing of a second legislator. Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji, who represented the Kano Municipal Local Government Area constituency, also died.
The governorโs spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, confirmed the second death in a somber Facebook post, writing, โInnalillahi Wa Inna Ilaihirrajiun. Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji, member representing Kano Municipal at Kano State House of Assembly, died today an hour after the death of his counterpart.โ
Both Hon. Saโadu and Hon. Daneji were known as active and dedicated contributors to the stateโs legislative business. Their sudden and unexplained deaths have left colleagues, constituents, and the entire state in profound shock and sorrow, with an outpouring of tributes and prayers flooding social media platforms.
As of now, the Kano State government has not released an official statement detailing the circumstances surrounding the two sudden deaths.
