Kaita Local Government Area in Katsina State has empowered 657 women and youth with N50,000 each to set up small-scale businesses to become self-reliant.
Governor Dikko Radda, who launched the empowerment on Saturday in Kaita, said that he was informed that the beneficiaries were selected across the polling units in the local government.
He said he was informed that another set of 100 people would receive grinding machines, and 50 others would receive water-pumping machines for irrigation farming.
Mr Radda further revealed that 150 butchers were also empowered with working tools by the local government.
The governor added that 40 motorcycles would also be distributed to some people in the area.
He, therefore, commended the council for the efforts and urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items given to them.
Mr Radda stated that during the past two years of the administration, “there is no ward where either the state or the LG didn’t provide any dividend of democracy.”
In his remarks, the council chairman, Bello Yandaki, said that the council would continue to execute projects that would enhance the living conditions of its people, especially the vulnerable in society.
“We are on the system you have already placed us, we will continue to follow your footsteps to move the state forward and improve the well-being of our people,” he assured.
Mr Yandaki called on the people to continue supporting the state and local governments, enabling them to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
