The Kaduna State Government, through the ACReSAL Project, has signed contracts worth over Fifty Billion Naira (N50bn) for major flood and gully erosion control projects in three critical corridors across the State.
The agreements, signed on 8th May 2026, will address the growing challenges of flooding, gully erosion, and land degradation affecting communities in Rigasa/Tudun Wada, Kawo, and Zaria township.
Following a rigorous and transparent procurement process, the contracts were awarded to three reputable construction firms:· Mothercat Nigeria Ltd – Rigasa/Tudun-Wada Corridor (over 17km)· Spectrum Nigeria Limited – Kawo Corridor (over 3km)· CGC Nigeria Limited – Zaria Corridor (over 11km)Project ScopeThe Rigasa/Tudun-Wada corridor will involve structural engineering and bio-remediation works to stabilize soil and control water flow using reinforced concrete open channels along the corridor and transition zones.
The Kawo corridor will expand water channels to control washouts, while surface protection measures such as stone pitching, composites, and bio-remediation techniques will be deployed.
The Zaria corridor will feature preventive engineering structures designed to improve water flow capacity while protecting adjoining properties and public infrastructure from erosion and flood damage.
According to the Kaduna State Government, the interventions will protect lives, infrastructure, livelihoods, and the environment while enhancing climate resilience and sustainable land management.
The statement added that the projects reflect the shared commitment of the Kaduna State Government and the ACReSAL Project to combating land degradation and improving ecological sustainability for present and future generations.
“The Kaduna State Government remains committed to delivering impactful interventions that support environmental restoration, community resilience, and sustainable development across the State,” the government said in a press release signed by the Kaduna ACReSAL Project.
Residents of the affected corridors have long suffered seasonal flooding that disrupts livelihoods, damages property, and sometimes claims lives. With these contracts now signed, construction is expected to commence in the coming weeks.
