The Kaduna State chapter of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has hailed its sweeping victories in Saturday’s by-elections as a “profound endorsement” of President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and Governor Uba Sani’s “inclusive governance.”
The party secured all three contested seats—Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency, Zaria Kewaye State Constituency, and Basawa State Constituency—in what it described as a historic breakthrough. Particularly significant was the win in Chikun/Kajuru, an area traditionally held by opposition parties for over two decades.
“These victories are not mere electoral wins: they are eloquent affirmations of the people’s steadfast faith in the progressive ideals championed by our great party,” the APC said in a statement signed by State Secretary Yahaya Baba Pate. The party credited the outcome to Governor Uba Sani’s “inclusive, people-centred leadership,” which it said had “redefined participatory democracy” in the state.
The statement emphasised that the results reflected public confidence in both President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” and Governor Sani’s policies, particularly in security, rural development, and bridging ethnic divides. “That the APC now claims victory in the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency—an opposition stronghold for over two decades—underscores a turning tide,” it said.
Hon. Fidelix Bagudu (Chikun/Kajuru), Hon. Isa Haruna Muhammed (Zaria Kewaye), and Hon. Dahiru Umar-Sani (Basawa) were the successful APC candidates. The party pledged that the newly elected lawmakers would deliver “purposeful, transparent, and responsive representation,” serving as “ambassadors of the shared aspirations of the people.”
The APC also extended gratitude to voters, calling the outcome “a testament to the people’s trust” in its leadership at both state and federal levels. Analysts view the results as a boost for Governor Sani’s administration, which has faced security and economic challenges in the North-West state.
While opposition parties have yet to formally react, the APC’s clean sweep suggests a shifting political landscape in Kaduna. The party urged continued public support, saying both the Tinubu and Uba Sani governments remained committed to “delivering peace, prosperity, and inclusive growth.”
The by-elections, held on 16 August, were largely peaceful according to electoral observers, though voter turnout appeared modest in some areas. With these wins, the APC strengthens its legislative presence ahead of the 2027 general elections, framing the outcome as validation of its governance approach amid Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms.
