President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the immediate recall of the top management of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), just days after a major shake-up was announced at the state broadcaster.
According to a press release from the Statehouse issued on Tuesday, the President has ordered Mr. Salihu Abdullahi Dembos to return to his post as Director-General of the NTA. Similarly, Mr. Ayo Adewuyi has been recalled to resume his role as the Executive Director of News.
Both men are to complete their original three-year tenures. Mr. Dembos, who was first appointed by President Tinubu in October 2023, will see his term through. Mr. Adewuyi, appointed in 2024, is now expected to remain in his position until 2027.
This directive effectively nullifies a sweeping reorganization of the NTA’s leadership that had been communicated recently. The previously announced appointments for a new Director-General, Executive Director of News, Executive Director of Marketing, and Managing Director of NTA Enterprises have all been set aside.
The press release, signed by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, offered no specific reason for the sudden reversal.
The recall suggests a rapid reconsideration of the management strategy for the national broadcaster, which is a key arm of the federal government’s public information system. The move ensures continuity and stability at the helm of the NTA, at least for the foreseeable future.
As of now, neither the recalled officials nor the individuals whose new appointments were rescinded have made public statements on the development.
