A major logistics network for the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists was disrupted this week after a coordinated operation by the military and local security forces in Borno State, military authorities announced.
Acting on precise human intelligence, troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in close partnership with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), intercepted two pick-up vans loaded with critical supplies destined for the terrorist group.
The tip-off alerted headquarters to the movement of the consignment from Dapchi in Yobe State towards the Magumeri general area in Borno. Troops swiftly deployed and successfully intercepted the vehicles along the identified route, preventing the supplies from reaching their intended recipients.
A detailed search of the vehicles revealed a vast cache of items, highlighting both the operational and domestic needs of the terrorist group. Key recoveries include:
ยท Transport & Logistics: Two civilian vehicles, 31 spare tyres, 23 spare rims, two bicycles, 12 ignition key starters, and three alternators.
ยท Sustenance: Two bags of flour, 34 tubers of yam, two nylons of garri, five bags of charcoal, and two blankets.
ยท Other Materials: Assorted adult and children’s clothing, a mattress, a power bank, six mobile phones, and a significant amount of cash in various denominations.
“The drivers conveying the items, along with the recovered materials, are currently in military custody for further interrogation,” said Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for OPHK.
He added that the investigation aims “to determine the extent of their involvement and to support ongoing counter-terrorism investigations.”
The operation underscores the critical role of local intelligence and civil-military cooperation in the ongoing fight against insurgency. The successful interdiction deals a significant blow to ISWAP’s efforts to re-supply its fighters, cutting off both vital vehicle parts and basic sustenance.
“The Troops of OPHK remain resolute in their commitment to denying terrorists freedom of movement, cutting off their supply chains, and ensuring the safety and security of law-abiding citizens across the North-East,” Lt. Col. Uba stated.
