With just under three months to go, official preparations for the Anambra State governorship election are intensifying. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun a crucial retraining programme for its key staff in the state.
The workshop, which started today, is for Electoral Officers, Heads of Department, and Assistant Electoral Officers. This move comes just 11 days after the same team successfully managed bye-elections held across the state.
Explaining the purpose of the training, a senior official described it as part of the Commission’s Election Monitoring and Support Centre (EMSC) strategy. This system acts as an early warning tool, allowing INEC to plan, monitor, and solve problems during an election in real time. It has been a critical part of managing all elections since 2018.
A National Commissioner, Prof. Rhoda Gumus, urged the participants to take the training seriously to ensure the November 8th vote is free, fair, and credible.
The Anambra State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs Queen Elizabeth Agu, praised the staff for their excellent work during the recent bye-elections and encouraged them to double their efforts for the much larger governorship election this November.
