The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the formal conclusion of the first quarter of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. The phase will close on Tuesday, December 10, 2025.
The Commission, in a statement signed by Mrs. Victoria Eta-Messi, Director of Voter Education and Publicity, stated that the exercise, which began with online pre-registration on August 18, 2025, and in-person registration on August 25, 2025, has recorded significant participation nationwide.
According to the Commission, a crucial statutory phase will follow. In compliance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022, INEC will display the preliminary register of new voters for public claims and objections from Monday, December 15 to Sunday, December 21, 2025.
The display will take place at all 774 Local Government Area offices and state offices where the registration occurred. INEC strongly urges all citizens who registered, updated their information, or applied for transfer during the just-ending phase to visit these centres to verify their details.
โThe Commission urges all eligible citizensโฆ to use this statutory window to verify their details, report inaccuracies, and draw attention to ineligible or deceased persons on the register,โ the statement read. It emphasized that public participation is โessential to safeguarding the integrity of the Register of Voters.โ
Providing a mid-exercise update, INEC disclosed that as of the end of the 13th week (November 28, 2025), it had received 9,891,801 online pre-registrations nationwide. From this pool, a total of 2,572,054 registrations have been fully completed. This comprises 1,503,832 applicants who finished their process online and 1,068,222 who registered physically at INEC offices.
The Commission noted that the CVR remains suspended in Anambra State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) due to ongoing electoral activities. New dates for resumption in these areas will be announced later.
INEC confirmed that the second phase of the CVR exercise will resume as scheduled on January 5, 2026, in line with its previously released timeline.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a credible and transparent voter register and solicited the continued cooperation of the public in strengthening Nigeriaโs democratic process.
