The presidential candidate of the Action Peoples Party (APM), Seyi Makinde, has declared that he will defeat the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, that of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and other contenders overwhelmingly in the 2023 general election.
Makinde made the comment on Thursday during the APM South Town Hall Meeting in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
Speaking at the event, the APM presidential flagbearer expressed confidence that his party would emerge victorious, describing the APM’s agenda as a “reset agenda” for the country.
“APM is going to win this election overwhelmingly. Because it is a reset agenda. If you like, listen and start working towards that,” he said.
Makinde, who is the Governor of Oyo State, stated that he has the energy to deal with the challenges facing the country, adding that he would not make issues of the campaign.
“Why I will not make issues of this campaign: I have the energy to deal with the challenges we have in this country,” he said.
He also challenged the presidential candidates of other parties to prove their fitness for office, saying: “Please, when they bring their presidential candidate to campaign, tell him to jump down. If they can do that, you can vote for them.”
Addressing those questioning his ambition given that another South West candidate is in the race, Makinde recalled the 1999 presidential election when Olusegun Obasanjo and Olu Falae, both from the South West, contested, noting that “heaven did not fall.”
“I have listened to people and they said to us, Seyi Makinde, why are you contesting when somebody from the South West is already on the site,” he said.
He urged the South West to reject what he described as politics of deceit.
“South West, you must say no to politics of deceit,” Makinde added.
