The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered a large-scale deployment of security personnel and operational assets to Plateau State following the recent attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, which resulted in the loss of several lives.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the police chief condemned the incident, describing it as a tragic act of violence against innocent citizens, and assured that those responsible would be apprehended.
The IGP also extended his condolences to the Governor of Plateau State, the affected families, and residents of Angwan Rukuba community, noting that the police share in their grief over the unfortunate development.
As part of immediate response measures, the Inspector-General had earlier deployed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Umar Shehu Nadada, to the state to assess the situation on ground, coordinate security efforts, and reinforce the existing operational framework.
The police high command has now escalated its response with the deployment of additional tactical teams, units of the Police Mobile Force, and intelligence operatives to the state. These deployments, according to the statement, are being carried out in collaboration with other security agencies to address the situation comprehensively and prevent further escalation.
The IGP stated that the intensified operations are aimed at restoring peace and stability across Plateau State, adding that security presence would remain visible in vulnerable communities until normalcy is fully restored.
He directed all operational commanders in the area to ensure proactive policing, maintain constant engagement with residents, and adopt strategies that would reassure communities and deter further attacks.
The police chief also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies, emphasizing the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining law and order.
He cautioned against taking the law into one’s hands and urged citizens to report any suspicious activities or incidents promptly to relevant authorities to support ongoing security operations.
The police reiterated their commitment to safeguarding lives and property, assuring that efforts would continue until those behind the attack are brought to justice and peace is fully restored in the affected areas.
