The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered the immediate deployment of the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations, Shehu Umar Nadada, to Kaduna State following the deadly attack on Ariko Village near Gurara Dam.
The directive comes after armed bandits stormed ECWA and Catholic churches in the community on April 5, 2026, opening fire on worshippers during service. The attack left five people dead and about fourteen others abducted, triggering panic across the area.
In response, the police high command initiated a coordinated security operation aimed at restoring order and securing the release of those taken captive. The deployed DIG was tasked with on site assessment and the coordination of tactical responses involving multiple security agencies.
During the operation, a joint team led by Nadada, working alongside the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services, successfully rescued seven of the kidnapped victims. The victims were taken to Katari Hospital for medical attention and are reported to be in stable condition as they await reunification with their families.
The Inspector General of Police affirmed that efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue the remaining victims, as well as to track down and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
He also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could aid ongoing operations.
The police leadership reiterated its commitment to intensifying security measures in the affected areas as part of broader efforts to curb violent attacks and restore confidence among residents.
