The Bauchi State Shariah Commission has sealed a shop in Bauchi metropolice for allegedly selling dead and stolen chickens to unsuspecting customers in Muda Lawal Market.
Market leaders raised the alarm over illicit transactions at the shop, which violate Islamic provisions governing animal slaughter and meat consumption.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday at the Muda Lawal Chicken Market, the Shariah Commissionโs Permanent Commissioner, Barr. Aminu Balarabe Isah, stated that the commission will not fold its arms and allow chicken dealers to sell inappropriate meat to the public.
He commended market leaders for reporting the matter and affirmed the commissionโs commitment to sanitizing poultry meat processing and consumption standards.
โWe got an information that there was somebody who used to buy a dead chicken or animal and sell it to the general public in Bauchi. So, as part of the responsibility bestowed on the Shariah Commission, the issue of buying dead meat and selling it to the general public is entirely prohibited, both in Islam and Bauchi State laws,โ the commissioner said.
