Armed men have kidnapped the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Samaila Bagudu, in an attack in his home area of Bagudu Local Government.
The assailants reportedly stormed the town on Friday evening, firing shots indiscriminately before seizing the politician.
According to local sources, the abduction took place shortly after Mr Bagudu had finished his evening prayers and was leaving a mosque to return to his residence.
The violence caused panic among residents, though the exact number of people involved or potential casualties remains unclear.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Government, Ahmed Idris, confirmed the incident to journalists on Saturday morning. However, attempts to get an official statement from the Kebbi State Police Command regarding the attack or any ongoing rescue operation were not immediately successful.
Kebbi State, situated in Nigeria’s north-west region, has experienced periodic security challenges linked to armed groups often referred to locally as bandits. These groups have been responsible for a range of criminal activities, including kidnappings for ransom and attacks on villages.
Further details are awaited
