In response to emerging security threats, Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has ordered the immediate intensification of security operations across the state.
This directive was issued at the end of a high level security meeting convened by the Governor after a trending video, allegedly featuring a self acclaimed bandit issuing threats around the Ekpoma area and adjoining communities, came to the government’s attention.
The Governor’s order has triggered a major security surge, with joint forces comprising the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) now conducting coordinated operations.
They are being supported by local vigilante groups and the Edo State Special Security Squad.
According to a statement from the Governor’s office, the operations are focused on forests, boundary communities, and known flashpoints. The strategy includes “search-and-comb” missions, enhanced intelligence gathering, and coordinated patrols designed to deny criminal elements any safe haven within the state.
Governor Okpebholo, who has treated security as a top tier priority since assuming office, had already activated a state-wide surveillance architecture covering key highways and corridors.
These include the Benin–Auchi Expressway, Ekpoma–Uromi Road, Ehor–Iruekpen Axis, and the Ewu–Irrua–Ubiaja Route, among others. The measures are designed to ensure early detection and swift response to any criminal activity.
The government also announced that the renewed push is already yielding results, with several arrests made in connection with recent security breaches.
The statement reiterated that these security operations are continuous and “will not cease until every inch of Edo land—urban centres, rural communities, and transit corridors—is fully secured and safe for residents, commuters, and investors.”
While urging citizens to remain calm and vigilant, the Edo State Government cautioned against the spread of misinformation and panic-driven narratives.
The government affirmed Governor Okpebholo’s resolute commitment to safeguarding lives and property, vowing to deploy all lawful measures to ensure criminality has no breathing space in Edo State.
