Governor Alex Otti of Abia State is set to present his administration’s proposed budget for the 2026 fiscal year to the state house of assembly later today.
The presentation is scheduled for 14:00 local time at the assembly complex in Umuahia.
In a statement released on Monday, the state government described the event as “a defining moment in our state’s development journey.”
The budget is expected to focus on consolidating what the government terms the “gains of the past 30 months,” with continued emphasis on infrastructure, healthcare, education, and digital governance.
Governor Otti, a former banker, was elected in 2023 on a promise to rebuild and revitalise the south-eastern state’s economy and public infrastructure.
The statement from the State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, said the 2026 proposal would aim to “strengthen the economic base of the state and accelerate capital projects.”
It added that the goal was to deliver “sustainable growth and improved quality of life for all citizens.”
The presentation will be followed by a period of review and debate by the state lawmakers before the budget is passed into law.
The public is encouraged to follow the proceedings through live broadcasts on accredited media channels.
