Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, on Sunday inaugurated a flyover and a township road constructed by his counterpart in Borno State, Babagana Zulum, at the cost of N20.59 billion.
Mr Zulum said at the inauguration in Maiduguri that the flyover at the Post Office area was constructed at a cost of N15.96 billion within 11 months.
The governor said the 2.5-km road with five-km drainage from Budum-Tandari Junction to Kasuwan Shanu cost N5 billion.
Also inaugurated are the Shehu Sanda Kyarimi I Primary School and Junior Secondary School.
He announced that his administration invested N46.98 billion in basic, secondary and tertiary education between the 2025 and 2026 fiscal years.
He said the investment formed part of broader efforts to rebuild the state’s education sector, “Following the destruction of more than 5,000 school structures and disruption of education that left about 2.2 million children out of school at the peak of the insurgency,” he said.
The governor said 136 education projects were awaiting inaguration or under construction across the state.
He added that usable classrooms at public pre-primary and primary schools increased to 5,792, while functional Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) facilities rose to 4,563.
According to him, functional senior secondary schools increased from 34 in eight Local Government Areas in 2019 to 129 in 25 LGAs in 2026.
Mr Zulum said school enrolment also rose from 766,551 learners in 2019 to 1,801,295 in 2026.
He noted that his administration was also revitalising Sangaya education by integrating Islamic studies with science, mathematics, technology and foundational English under the NBAIS – approved curriculum.
The governor said that 25 Higher Islamic Colleges had either been completed or were at advanced stages of development out of the planned 27 across the state.
He added that N14.54 billion had been committed to ICT-related education infrastructure, including 25 digital literacy and ICT centres and computer-based testing facilities in 100 secondary schools.
Mr Zulum said more than N15 billion had been invested in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), while N4 billion was committed to teacher training and professional development.
The governor said his administration recruited 5,000 teachers and trained more than 11,000 basic-level teachers, bringing the teaching workforce to 19,316.
He stated that the projects would ease traffic congestion, improve road safety and facilitate the movement of people and goods.
Mr Zulum reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to rebuilding Borno State through sustained investment in education, infrastructure, skills development and human capital.
The governor appreciated traditional and religious leaders, development partners, teachers, parents and residents for their support and resilience.
He said the projects would not only improve the quality of education and ease movement within the metropolis but also create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
Mr Sule said the projects were clear demonstration of and commitment of the Borno government to rebuilding critical infrastructure and improving the living conditions of residents after insurgency. (NAN)
