Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing the necessary support to the Nigerian Army to enhance the safety and security of Nigerians.
Mr Fintiri stated this at the Nigerian Army Social Activities, originally known as West African Social Activities, celebrated by the 23 Brigade Yola on Wednesday.
Mr Fintri reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing the necessary support to enable the personnel to move and fight effectively for peace.
“We will continue to partner with the military leadership to ensure that selected infrastructure, like the road network within this barracks, receives the attention it deserves.
“As we enjoy the cultural display, the food, and the exhibition of our heritage today, let us be reminded that our diversity is our greatest strength,” he said.
Mr Fintiri also described the families of the personnel of the Nigerian armed forces as the silent heroes of national security.
He explained that while their loved ones were on the front lines, they managed the home front with a resilience that was truly inspiring.
Mr Fintiri further said the annual socio-cultural celebration was more than just a break from the rigours of professional duty but was also a testament to the unity in diversity that defined the armed forces.
Amaechi Agwu, acting commander of the 23 Brigade Yola, Adamawa, said WASA was an annual military tradition designed to foster camaraderie, celebrate cultural diversity and strengthen civil-military relationships.
“The WASA dates back to the World War II era, when African soldiers offered sacrifices for a bountiful harvest and peace in the new year. This is to advance the transformation of the Nigerian army into a more professional, adaptable and combat-ready force at any time.
“We want a resilient force capable of decisively discharging its constitutional responsibilities within a joint and multi-agency environment,” he said.
